What Are Cookies?

Definition

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the website remember information about your visit, such as your preferences or actions, so that the site can function properly or provide a more tailored experience.

  • Cookies are stored by your web browser.
  • They can be session cookies (deleted when you close the browser) or persistent cookies (stored for a set period).
  • Cookies do not typically contain personal information that directly identifies you, but they can be used to recognise your device.

Why Websites Use Cookies

Websites use cookies for a variety of reasons, including remembering your preferences, keeping you signed in, understanding how visitors use the site, and delivering relevant content. For an offline poker venue like Card Jetty Launceston, cookies help us ensure the website works smoothly and that you can find information about our poker room, Card Lounge, and restaurant.

  • Functional cookies enable core site features.
  • Analytics cookies help us understand visitor behaviour in aggregate.
  • Preference cookies remember choices like language or region.

How We Use Cookies

Essential Cookies

Essential cookies are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable core features such as page navigation, secure areas, and the age verification gate that confirms visitors are 21 or older before entering the site.

  • The 21+ age gate uses a cookie to remember that you have confirmed your age.
  • These cookies do not require consent under most privacy laws because they are strictly necessary.
  • They are usually session cookies and expire when you close your browser.

Analytics Cookies

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the website. They collect information such as which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and which links are clicked. This data is aggregated and anonymised, and it helps us improve the site's structure and content, including information about our poker room and Card Lounge.

  • We may use privacy-friendly analytics tools that do not track individual users across the web.
  • The data is used only to improve the website experience.
  • You can opt out of analytics cookies through your browser settings or our cookie preference tool if available.

Preference Cookies

Preference cookies allow the website to remember choices you make, such as your preferred language or region. They enhance your experience by tailoring the site to your needs. For example, they might remember that you have already seen a particular notice or that you prefer a certain display setting.

  • These cookies are not essential but improve usability.
  • They may be persistent cookies with a longer lifespan.
  • You can manage or delete preference cookies through your browser settings.

Third-Party Cookies

Third-Party Services

Some cookies may be set by third-party services that we use on the website, such as embedded maps or analytics providers. These third parties may collect information about your visit in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not control these cookies, and we encourage you to review the relevant third-party policies for more information.

  • Third-party cookies are subject to the third party's privacy policy.
  • We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
  • You can block third-party cookies through most browser settings.

Managing Cookies

Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can usually choose to block all cookies, block only third-party cookies, or delete cookies when you close the browser. The exact steps vary by browser, so please refer to your browser's help documentation.

  • Common browsers include Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
  • Settings are typically found under 'Privacy' or 'Security'.
  • You can also use private browsing or incognito mode to limit cookie storage.

Opting Out of Analytics

If you do not wish to have analytics cookies placed on your device, you can usually opt out through your browser settings or by using browser extensions that block tracking. Some analytics providers also offer their own opt-out mechanisms.

  • Opt-out methods vary by provider.
  • Blocking analytics cookies does not affect the core functionality of the website.
  • You may need to repeat the opt-out if you clear cookies.

Consequences of Disabling Cookies

If you disable cookies, some parts of the website may not function as intended. For example, the 21+ age gate may ask you to confirm your age each time you visit, and certain preferences may not be remembered. However, you will still be able to browse the main content about our offline poker venue, poker room, and Card Lounge.

  • Essential cookies are required for the age gate to remember your confirmation.
  • Disabling cookies does not affect your ability to visit the venue in person.
  • You can re-enable cookies at any time.

Cookies and Your Privacy

Data Collected Through Cookies

Cookies may collect limited information about your device and browsing behaviour on our website. This information is used only for the purposes described in this policy and our Privacy Policy. We do not use cookies to collect sensitive personal information such as financial details or identification documents.

  • Information collected may include IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information collected through cookies.
  • For more details, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Legal Basis

Under Australian privacy law, we rely on legitimate interests and your consent where required for the use of non-essential cookies. Essential cookies are used because they are necessary for the website to function, including the 21+ age gate.

  • You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your browser settings.
  • We do not use cookies for cross-site tracking or advertising profiling.
  • Our use of cookies is limited to the operation and improvement of this website.

Policy Updates
